Kenya Wilson

What age did you start riding and how did you get into riding?
I was 4 years old and started riding at a local riding school

First pony/horse name/details
Sunshine was the first pony we owned. She was very pretty and sweet but could not go off the lead with her.

If you attended Pony Club, which one?
I first started at Gidgegannup Pony Club then finished up at Swan Valley HPC as we moved across the road

What made you want to pursue Eventing? It looked fun! All my friends liked jumping and I was a dressage/hack rider until I got an incredible jumping pony when I was 11.

Assistance along the way from EA Coach/es? So many incredible coaches have been part of my journey, from all the coaches through Pony Club and BEATS (WA jnr training squad), people in my younger years that jump out at me such as Les Bunning, Nel Henry, and Alison Roland. I now have invaluable help from Stuart Tinney and David Dobson.

Do you have a role model or anyone you particularly admire? There are some incredible people in our community that I admire for their determination, success and ability. Someone in particular that I look up to in our local community is Kate Ingham, riding her horses to a FEI level, holding down a full-time high level job in government, a volunteer on committees, and all round awesome person. I’m not really sure how she does it but it reminds me often that you can achieve what ever you set your mind to with the right amount of handwork and determination.

Name some of your greatest competitive achievements.
