The Australian Championship kicking off under heavy rain

It’s been a challenging start to the Australian Showjumping Championships for event organisers with an unprecedented amount of rain falling this week. Whilst many parts of the State are battling floods, organisers have taken conditions in their stride and done a tremendous job keeping this prestigious jumping event on track. A super soaker was brought in from Ballarat to alleviate excess water. This ran all night on Thursday in the Main Area with over 3,000 litres being lifted from the surface. Organisers also amended the format of all Title Classes into a two round Championship with the First Round Table C Speed Class omitted from the Schedule and all Team events being judged over just the one day.

Saturday the skies cleared and the sun came out. There were great crowds out to watch some fantastic jumping. The 'Stars of the Future' in particular, was a hotly contested class with Angela Dobbin bringing home the win on Yarra Valley Jellybean. Angela had broken her cheekbone in three places at the Boneo Cup the week before so it was a truly courageous win.

The Australian Speed Championship was held under lights in the indoor arena to a crowd in excess of 250 people. It’s always a highlight of the show and this year Kristy Bruhn was successful on the evergreen Jack.
