Coronavirus and the AIS Campus

As a result of the global challenges posed by COVID-19 around the world, many Australian sports are adjusting their training plans in the lead up to Tokyo 2020.

The AIS is receiving requests from Australian sports regarding the opportunity to conduct training camps at the AIS Canberra campus, sometimes including international training partners.

The Australian Government has issued a list of countries for which there is deemed to be elevated risk. Providing appropriate healthcare for individuals from these countries is associated with an increased resource burden for the AIS to manage.

For reasons of resource capacity, the AIS will for the foreseeable future, not accept camps from overseas groups that have spent time in the preceding 14 days in any of the following countries (this list will be updated regularly on the AIS website devoted to COVID-19):

  • China
  • Cambodia
  • Hong Kong
  • Indonesia
  • Iran
  • Italy
  • Japan
  • Singapore
  • South Korea
  • Thailand

Please note, transition through international airports in one of these countries is not considered to increase risk.

Groups from overseas who have not spent any time in these countries in the preceding 14 days may be considered for camps. At all times however, accommodating groups of Australian athletes will take priority over groups from overseas.

All groups, including groups of Australian athletes, coming into the AIS for training camps from any point of origin, will be required to complete the 'AIS Camps Pre-Health Check' form here:  AIS Camps Pre-Arrival Health Check.pdf

The form will be reviewed by AIS medical staff, prior to formal acceptance of the camp onto the AIS campus.

AIS apologises for any convenience caused. The current challenges regarding COVID-19 are unprecedented and a strategic re-evaluation of the use of AIS training resources is required.

As conditions change we will update the attached process.
