EA members acknowledged in Australia Day honours list

Congratulations to the following members of the equestrian community acknowledged in the 2016 Australia Day Honours List. 

Victorian Barry Roycroft has been declared a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to equestrian sports, as an administrator, coach and competitor. A member of Equestrian Australia’s Hall of Fame, Barry first became involved in the sport as a rider and he attended three Olympic Games – twice as a show jumper (1960, 1976) and once as an eventer (1988). When finished with competitive riding Barry continued to play an active role in the sport becoming a leading Eventing judge and he travelled the word serving on the ground jury of many of the world’s leading CCI4* and CCI3* events. Concurrently he served on numerous committees including the Board of Equestrian Victoria, Eventing Victoria (of which he was Chair) and the National Eventing Committee. Barry is also a Level 3 NCAS Eventing and Jumping Coach and the founder of the Lakes and Craters Three Day Event which has been running since 1978. Read more   

New South Wales Member John Winning has received a member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to the community through fundraising and support for charitable organisations, and to sailing and horse sports. John has been the Chair of Equestrian Australia’s patron’s program since 2014. He has worn many hats during his more than 18 year involvement in the sport including owner, sponsor and event assistant to wife Kerrie. John is passionate about developing equestrian in Australia and eagerly lends his business skills and experience in working to further advance the sport.  

South Australian Russell Ritter has received a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his service to equestrian sports. Russ has been involved in the sport for over 60 years as a rider, competitor and official. A long serving volunteer of the show jumping community Russell served on numerous committees including the board of Equestrian South Australia. He was an inaugural member of the Equestrian Australia SA Branch Show Jumping Council and also founder of the SA Metro Show Jumping Club. In 2000 he was the recipient of the Australian Sports Medal and in 2012 he was awarded the Sport SA Volunteer of the Year award.  

Tasmanian Judith Kilby has received a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her service to equestrian sports as a coach and administrator. Judith was a founding member of Show Jumping Tasmania and in 2014 was awarded life membership of the organisation. She was also a founding member of Eventing Tasmania, the Northern Tasmanian Equestrian Club and the Northern Hunt Club. In 2000 she was awarded the Australian Sports Medal and in 2013 received a service award from Equestrian Tasmania. She is also a level 2 NCAS Coach and Coach Educator and was a long serving member of Equestrian Tasmania’s NCAS Coaching sub-committee. Her involvement in the sport also expands to Pony Club where she has also held many positions. Read More
