FEI Jumping Stewards Promotion

The Sydney International Equestrian Centre hosted two FEI Jumping Steward Courses alongside the Waratah Jumping Shows from 18–24 August 2025.

FEI Level 3 Course

The program began with the FEI Level 3 Course, a comprehensive four-day course. Although the group was small, this allowed for an excellent learning environment with more one-on-one time with the two expert Course Directors. Participants included both Australian and American Stewards, each aiming to take the next step to Level 3, enabling them to officiate as Chief Stewards. We are delighted to report that all candidates successfully gained their Level 3 accreditation.

FEI Level 2 Course

Following this, the FEI Level 2 Course ran over three days and welcomed 15 Stewards from Australia, New Zealand, America, Finland, Japan, Thailand, and Singapore. The group included existing FEI Level 1 Stewards as well as four Australian National Jumping Stewards, who were able to progress to FEI Level 2 thanks to the equivalency pathway secured last year. Congratulations to all participants who successfully achieved their transfer to FEI Level 2 status.

Both courses were led by Nigel King (HKG) and Charles Maudlin (IRL), who brought a wealth of international experience and knowledge to the classroom. In an exciting first for Australia and the FEI, the courses trialled a hybrid format, with Charles joining remotely from Ireland for all seven days. This innovative approach demonstrated how technology can provide new opportunities for officials’ education in the future. All sessions were highly engaging, offering valuable insights into the broad range of scenarios and challenges faced by Stewards.

Special thanks go to Edwena Mitchell for her support in accommodating the FEI courses alongside the Waratah Jumping Shows. Also to Jan Golding AUS Jumping Steward General for support for courses running.

These courses not only strengthened the expertise of our Jumping Stewarding community but also reflected Equestrian Australia’s commitment to developing world-class officials and supporting excellence on the international stage.
