Layne Leads the Way in Wellington

Australian dressage rider Kelly Layne has won the Wellington CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle, eclipsing the field of nine with a score of 73.625%.

The win is Layne’s first major victory with the 13 year old KWPN gelding Udon P, which is one of two horses that the Queensland, now Florida based rider is listed on the Equestrian Australia elite squad with (the other is Von Primaire).

The combination were decisive winners of the Freestlye beating the second placed combination, Germany’s Jesse Kim and Charming 8 by more than three percent.

Earlier, Layne and Udon P recorded a score of 69.240% in the Grand Prix to finish in second position.

Layne is no stranger to international competition having represented Australia at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen. The 38 year old is eyeing a position on the 2014 Normandy team and plans to travel to Europe later in the year.
