Member Found Guilty of Animal Welfare Breach
Equestrian Australia advises members that a former member in South Australia has been found guilty for animal cruelty relating to a horse, in the Mount Barker Magistrates Court of breaching the Animal Welfare Act. Sentencing is scheduled to take place on 11 March 2026. The individual has the right to appeal the decision. Equestrian Australia will continue to liaise with RSPCA to monitor developments and provide further updates to members as the legal process progresses.
Equestrian Australia takes the welfare of horses very seriously and will continue to act in accordance with its rules and procedures where concerns are raised.
Equestrian Australia wishes to take this opportunity to remind all members of their obligations under Equestrian Australia's General Regulations, in particular Article 141 – Protection of Horses and Article 142 – Abuse of Horses. Members are encouraged to familiarise themselves with these Articles and ensure they understand what is required of them, both under the General Regulations and under the relevant animal welfare legislation in their state or territory.
