Star Struck Vaulters Making Waves in Geelong

Star Struck Stables was established in 1998 in Geelong, Victoria. Some of our riding students just wanted to do Vaulting every lesson, so we decided to make a team and train twice a week.

We started with one little stock horse called Toby. Our team of horses has now expanded to 30.

In setting up, so many of the best ideas have come from the kids themselves. Our name was created by a student, Heather Sims, when she was 15 years old and our logo was designed by vaulter Sarah Ryan.

Star Struck Stables runs therapeutic equestrian Vaulting sessions seven days a week for children and adults with disabilities, migrants with limited English, foster children, and people with dementia. Our vaulters range in age from 3 years through to 75 years.

To fundraise for our therapy programs, we do lessons and clinics for the general public and once or twice a month we teach and do demonstrations at Pony Clubs, to help promote the benefits of Vaulting.

Our favourite pony club to visit is Bendigo Pony Club, as participating in their pink Rally fundraiser is always lots of fun for everyone.

Our vaulters enjoy training horses and helping new vaulters get involved and we often help new teams to train up horses.

Recently, therapy horse Kyabra Park Hulla Bilou (aka Bugz), managed to get a gig to showcase our sport on national TV during an episode of Farmer Wants a Wife, with Stacey and farmer Harry. Bugz said being a TV Star was better than competing, as there was no one clapping.

In the past, we have also promoted Vaulting to the general public by doing demonstrations at school fairs and festivals, as well as taking horses into schools as part of Stop Bullying campaigns.

We have vaulted at The Trots at night, which was broadcast on TV on the Racing Channel. This was super challenging for the vaulters as the trotting track is on a fairly steep slope.

Our team enjoys Vaulting on the beach and cross-training horses down the beach, which always draws a crowd. The most memorable beach experience that occurred was when some random guys jumped on the barrel and tried to copy what they had seen the vaulters do. Everyone on the beach was laughing.

Our team loves getting together with the other teams and learning from visiting coaches.
