Women Leaders In Sport Grants now open!

Applications open for expanded Women Leaders in Sport program.

The Australian Sports Commission is calling for applications for the expanded Women Leaders in Sport program, an initiative that has supported the development ambitions of more than 23,000 women since its inception in 2002.

A partnership of the ASC and Office for Women, the Women Leaders in Sport program will receive Australian Government funding of more than $2million over the next three years and enabling it to be expanded for 2017.

For the first time a Targeted Leadership and Development program will provide an intensive 12 month opportunity for identified women leaders in sport to further develop their leadership capabilities and provide valuable networking opportunities.

This will be complemented by Individual Development Grants of up to $3,000 and Organisation Leadership Development Grants of up to $20,000 to enable women to undertake learning and development opportunities to increase their leadership potential.

These expanded options create development opportunities for women across the entire sporting sector, including coaches, officials, administrators and board members. Olympic gold medal rower Kim Brennan is among the thousands of women who have taken part in the program and benefitted.

In 2015, more than 85 per cent of grants recipients said the program helped increase the opportunity for them to move into senior leadership roles within the sporting industry.

Minister for Sport Sussan Ley said the Women Leaders in Sport program had a proven history over 14 years.

“It doesn’t matter whether your sport is big or small, or whether you’re contributing at a regional or national level, the Women Leaders in Sport program gives every woman a chance to try and develop their own opportunities in sport.  It also provides a valuable experience for networking with other women in sport.”

Applications for the individual and organisation grants are open now and close October 5, 2016. For more information and applications go to www.ausport.gov.au/wlis. Successful grant recipients will be notified in November.
