World Champion Driver, Boyd Exell enlightens at Tamworth

Six days of Driving clinics, competitions and a master class from World Champion Boyd Exell drew an eager crowd of Drivers from far and wide to Tamworth (NSW) with the majority of attendees booked in for the whole six day extravaganza.

The first two days was designated for an FEI Course Designers Course presented by Dr Wolfgang Asendorf of Germany and Australian Peter Harkness. A broad level of experience and abilities were among the participants including current and newly accredited officials and members of the driving community along with well-known National Driving Course Designers Max Pearce and Bob Edwards in attendance to develop their skills. Wolfgang spoke of FEI Driving Course Designing rules and requirements then practically demonstrated and explained these in detail through the use of cones, carriages and visualisation.

On Saturday the dressage and cones for both the FEI CAI 1* and EA unofficial classes started. Then the late afternoon featured a combined marathon (indoor event) for FEI CAI 1* classes. This was followed by a master class with Boyd Exell and Dr Wolfgang Asendorf.

Sunday morning was set aside for the combined marathon phase of the FEI CAI 1* competition. Clinic attendees were invited to partake in a marathon course for free, to implement their newly developed practical skills learnt from the best. In the afternoon Boyd Exell presented another clinic for drivers, riders and spectators whilst an extremely eager crowd paid close attention.

The extravaganza concluded on a high with Boyd Exell conducting more classes on Monday and Tuesday. Many participants claimed it was their highlight and commented on Exell’s superior level of horsemanship.
