Junior riders jump out at EquiFest

The future of Australian and New Zealand Show Jumping was on display across EquiFest. Riders converged on the Hawkesbury Showgrounds from March 30 to April 2 to test themselves against the clock and course and reach news levels of riding across the four-day festival of equestrian. With a strong focus on the development of junior Show Jumping combinations as well as showcasing the elite, EquiFest had 3 arenas dedicated to jumping to cater for all levels.

EquiFest kicked off with the Equine International Air Freight (EIAF) Young Rider Championship on Thursday, March 30. With perfect conditions for jumping and a course that tested both horse and rider, the stage was set for a great battle. Madeline Sinderberry on ‘Fernhill ZinZan’ took out first place followed by Kate Hinschen and ‘Finch Farm Cadel’ in second. 20-year-old New Zealand star Lily Tootill and horse ‘Ulysses NZPH’ put in a solid performance to place third.

Saturday saw the Centuria Captial Junior Rider Championships 1.25m 2 round take center stage on the Horseland Premier Arena. A strong display from Amelia Douglas aboard ‘Barrichello’ saw them crowned champions. ‘Mo Jo Jo Jo’ placed second with Armi Easey and Sophie Hatch with ‘Glenara Mudslide’ rounded out the top three.

One of the feature events of Sunday’s program was the EquiFest Young Rider Championship. In a hotly contested field, the tears nearly flowed for winner Jamie Priestly and ‘Kolura Stud Optimist’ with Jessica Trip and ‘Diamond B Verona’ holding on to second place ahead of Stephanie McKillop aboard ‘Yirrkal Exclusive’.
