Boyd Exell

Born in Bega, Boyd has been involved in equestrian sport since he was 8 years old. The passion for driving started at the age of 16 when Boyd won the Australian pairs championship. Boyd left Australia five years later for the UK to improve his riding whilst focusing especially on his carriage driving talent. Apart from representing Australia on three occasions at the World Equestrian Games, (WEG) Boyd is the current world-four-in hand driving champion, having won the title in 2012. Exell made history at the Kentucky World Equestrian Games when he won Australia’s first WEG gold medal since the event started in 1990. Exell has won the FEI World Cup Driving title five times (2009-2012, 2014) and the prestigious Aachen CHIO on six occasions (2003, 2009-2013). He has twice been named Equestrian Australia’s international athlete of the year (2010, 2013) and his team of horses have also been honoured twice, receiving the international horse of the year award in 2012 and 2013.
