Introducing Equestrian Australia team member

Amy McGregor

Pathways Officer – Officials

What does your role entail?

In a nutshell, I look after EA and FEI accredited officials and work with the discipline committees to maintain and develop the Officials Pathway.

What’s the problem you most commonly solve in your role?

Too many to list, every day is different.

If you could pick a superpower, what would you choose?

Time Travel.

What’s your favourite horse breed and horse colour?

Grey Thoroughbred or Warmblood.

What’s your favourite equestrian discipline?

Eventing.

What’s the coolest thing about your job?

Working with so many fantastic people who are passionate about the sport of Equestrian, both in this country and around the world.

What is your equestrian background?

I am originally from England, from a non-equestrian family, who I pestered for riding lessons from an early age.

Our neighbours had horses, which they hunted and I eventually also wore them down for me to help exercise them. They owned event horses, ridden by a professional event rider. I was lucky enough that they would take me around the English countryside during the eventing season to watch their horses compete, which fuelled my passion for Eventing.

I went on to own and compete horses, both back in the UK and here in Australia, mainly within the sport of Eventing.

After completing my degree studies in the UK, I decided to take a year out and come to Australia and have never left. I worked as a Yard Manager and PA for the same 5* eventing team for over 10 years and had the privilege to travel around Australia and the world with the horses that I looked after. Some of these travels involved helping represent Australia at Olympic and World Games.

I have worked at the ENSW office and the EA office previously and recently started back at EA in April 2018.

If you were an animal, what would you be and why?

Maybe a Northern White Rhino – really only for the reason it would be great to help boost population numbers of this endangered species.

What is the nerdiest thing you do in your free time?

I would not class it as nerdy – I love to read.
