Staff Profile - Jenny Merity

Each month we introduce you to a member of the EA team. It's fun, a little bit serious and maybe more interesting than you’d expect...

Introducing Equestrian Australia team member

Jenny Merity

Committee Liaison Officer

What does your role entail?

Helping support all the disciplines, working closely with Karen Myers, the Committee Liaison Manager, as well as all things FEI. This includes entries for FEI competitions, Novice Endurance Horse qualifications, and finding the answers for any other questions that come up for all the disciplines.

What’s the problem you most commonly solve in your role?

Working with Alison (who is currently doing horse passports), to ensure that riders have the right horse passport in time to enter FEI events and have renewed their FEI registration. Also, helping to check the Eventing MERs (Minimum Eligibility Requirements) for horse/rider combinations competing at FEI events.

If you could pick a superpower, what would you choose?

Being able to be in two places at once, like Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies.

What’s your favourite horse breed and horse colour?

A dapple grey Irish Sport Horse.

What’s your favourite equestrian discipline?

Eventing.

What’s the coolest thing about your job?

The great people I work with.

What is your equestrian background?

I went to primary school opposite Randwick Racecourse (where we played sport) and next to TJ Smith’s stables. I rode for 6 months when my grandfather had a farm at Mulgoa when I was young and then started riding in my 30s with Kellyville Riding Club (now Hawkesbury Riding Club).

If you were an animal, what would you be and why?

Either one of my Golden Retrievers (who have come from Golden Retriever Rescue) or one of our horses, who all have a wonderful life without having to work too hard.

What is the nerdiest thing you do in your free time?

I am a bit of a computer nerd and so I do the scoring for Hawkesbury Riding Club Dressage Days!
