Staff Profile - Stefanie Maraun

Each month we introduce you to a member of the EA team. It's fun, a little bit serious and maybe more interesting than you’d expect...

Introducing Equestrian Australia team member

Stefanie Maraun

High Performance Sports Consultant /

Para-Dressage Chef d’Equipe

What does your role entail?

I look after the Para-Dressage Discipline from a Grassroots Level all the way through to High Performance, Paralympics and the World Equestrian Games. I am also the Lead Contact for both the Olympic & Paralympic Committees going into Tokyo 2020.

What’s the problem you most commonly solve in your role?

My role varies every day, so there is never one problem that I solve. I wish it was that simple!

If you could pick a superpower, what would you choose?

I would definitely like to be Invisible. Not because I don’t want to be seen, but more so I can listen in on conversations without people knowing.

What’s your favourite horse breed and horse colour?

I would have to say a Bay TB Mare, with lots of white! I have one in my paddock and I would clone her 100 times if I could.

What’s your favourite equestrian discipline?

Definitely Eventing. I love the sophistication of dressage, the thrill of XC and the precision of show jumping.

What’s the coolest thing about your job?

I would definitely have to say working with Athletes who are at the top of their sport and have so much knowledge of the industry.

What is your equestrian background?

One of my school friends took me to a holiday riding camp at Centennial Park when I was 10 years old and I haven’t stopped since.

I saved up all my money and bought my bay TB mare when I was 13-years-old, and she is now retired in my back paddock producing some beautiful foals for me!

I competed in show jumping for a while and then crossed to the dark side of eventing a few years later. I studied a Bachelor of Equine Science at CSU in Wagga Wagga and then ended up getting a Head Groom job for a 4* eventer in Sydney.

I then moved to EA in 2015, while still grooming and riding in my spare time.

If you were an animal, what would you be and why?

I would have to say that I am a Kelpie. Very loyal to the people I trust, but I also feel like I am constantly herding cattle!

What is the nerdiest thing you do in your free time?

I am an avid book reader in my spare time. I can read a book a day if I want too!
