Critical Incident Management (CIM) Seminar

In the last week of May, delegates from 6 states and key EA staff attended a Critical Incident Management (CIM) Seminar and exercise presented by Iain Roy and Daren James on behalf of the Australian Institute of Sport.

The morning session examined some of the key concepts and decision points as well as introducing the “PEARLBC” model which clearly separated the responsibilities of the Serious Incident Team on the ground and the CIM team operating remotely.

The afternoon session consisted of a simulation which put skills and process understanding under the microscope  -importantly this was a virtual exercise which, for the CIM team, closely represents how the team will be assembled and work together in a real incident.

Perhaps the success of the seminar and exercise is best summed up by this quote from Michelle Debenham (FEI Level 3 Eventing TD and EV Health, Risk & Child Safety Officer) “Fantastic training which further developed my understanding & built my confidence in handling critical incidents.”

We hope to share the processes and procedures underlying the CIM more widely in the future.
