Expressions of interest being sought from Endurance riders for 2019 Youth Endurance Championships and beyond

Equestrian Australia is calling for expressions of interest from Endurance riders who wish to join the group working to represent Australia at international Championship endurance events.

Currently this includes:

  • World Endurance Championships for Junior and Youth Riders 2019. This event will be held in Pisa, Italy from the 17-18 September 2019

The intent is to gather together riders who wish to prepare themselves for possible selection to represent Australia at the above event, and future events.  At this stage, the final requirements for qualification are uncertain, and there may be changes to the requirements as the selection policies are being finalised.

The current qualification criteria as per the FEI are:

Junior/Young Riders Horses:

- Horses must have graduated through the qualifying processes for Novice and CEI-Star qualifying up to, and including, the distance of the event for which a Certificate of Capability is sought

- Horses must have successfully completed at least 2 CEI 2* or higher

- Of these 2 CEI, at least one must be no less than 14 kph, and the same, or higher distance and time frame as the 4-Star Championship and achieved no earlier than 24 months prior to, no later than the close of nominated entries for Championship and/or 60 days prior to the Event, whichever comes first. This one ride must be in combination with the nominated Athlete unless that Athlete is a J/YR Elite Endurance Athlete. In such cases the Horse can be ridden by any other applicable J/YR Athlete.

Junior/Young Riders Athletes:

- To achieve J/YR Elite Athlete status, Athletes must have successfully completed a minimum of ten CEI 2* 120km Events or higher. To maintain J/YR Elite Athlete status, Athletes must successfully complete at least one CEI 120 km or higher within every successive 24 months

- Athletes who receive any form of a suspension as defined under the FEI General Regulations (Penalties) or have committed an offense under the FEI Equine Anti-Doping and Control Medication regulations, will automatically lose their 'Elite Status' and will be required to re-qualify again by completing ten CEI2* commencing either after the period of suspension or after the ‘fast track’ decision is finalised

- Athletes must have graduated through the qualifying processes outlined above for Novice and CEI-Star qualifying up to, and including, the distance of the event for which a Certificate of Capability is sought. 816.3.7 Athletes must have successfully completed at least 3 CEI 2* or higher

- Of those 3 CEI, one must be at the minimum speed no less than 14 kph, and the same, or higher distance and time frame as the 4* Championship and achieved no earlier than 24 months prior to, no later than the close of nominated entries for Championship and/or 60 days prior to the Event, whichever comes first. This one ride must be in combination with the nominated Horse unless that Athlete is a J/YR Elite Endurance Athlete.

Please note the event will be completely self-funded.  Riders will be responsible for the following costs:

  • Return airfares to the competition
  • Horse transportation and related costs
  • Transport to/from the airports
  • Meals and accommodation
  • Insurance (EA National Office can assist with this insurance)
  • Entry fees and any other related expenses
  • Any additional expenses
