Restrictions on Horse Prefix Registrations to benefit breeders

Changes have been made to the Horse Prefix Registration restrictions in Equestrian Australia's General Regulations.

Breeders and studs, who are a member of Equestrian Australia or an affiliated Breed Society, can now register the horse’s prefix from birth and it can no longer be changed without their written permission. This rule applies to any horses registered from 1 July onwards – it will not be automatically backdated on currently registered horses. Written consent may be given at the time of the sale of the horse or at some later date to edit a prefix.

This change will ensure that the breeding prefix of any registered horse would remain the same from birth unless a change was agreed by both breeder and current owner and will enable a better recognition and acknowledgement of the breeder's significant role in the success of a sport horse's career.

Membership and Horse registrations services are offered through your EA State Branch office.

As such, the EA General Regulations have been formally updated on the EA website to come into effect from 1 July 2015. For reference the update concerns Article 138 – Names of Horses (page 21).
