VOLUNTEERS OF THE MONTH the Founders of the Australian Eventing Forum

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH is a regular series on our website. It is a way of highlighting the tireless Equestrian Australia volunteers from across all disciplines, who help keep our sport running smoothly, all over Australia.

This month we say THANK YOU to the four founders of the Australian Eventing Forum, based online. Thanks team!

The Facebook group Australian Eventing Forum was originally set up to keep officials connected through COVID-19. It has grown to include coaches, athletes and organising committees, with over 322 members.

The four members of our Eventing Community who put it together and made it happen are:

  • Michelle Debenham - Technical Delegate & Event Director of Tonimbuk Horse Trials
  • Roger Kane – Technical Delegate who also served as The National Safety Officer for Equestrian Australia
  • Matthew Bates - Technical Delegate and partner in Bates Equestrian
  • James Leva - Technical Delegate

Topics covered in their regular zoom seminars include cross country course design, gear rules, frangible devices, officials accreditation, RUOK, COVID-19 in sport, MERS/qualifications, show jumping in Eventing, course control and improving safety from a rider’s perspective.

"With the content coming from very knowledgeable presenters, it has created a great environment for the sharing of knowledge and ideas at a time when staying connected is really important for our sport," said Janet Houghton.

Thank you all for being members of this wonderful army of volunteers that contribute so much to our sport.
