Wrap-Up from IGEQ AGM

The International Group of Equestrian Qualification (IGEQ) General Assembly was held via Zoom on 24 November 2020. Thank you to Equestrian Australia (EA) delegates, Simon Kale and Tim Calkin, for representing EA at the meeting.

Please see below a few brief notes from the meeting: 

  • Anne d'Leteren (Belgium) was voted to the Executive Committee as a delegate for Region 2  (please see here for all members of the IGEQ Executive Committee https://igeq.org/executive-committee-members)
  • It was agreed the IGEQ Coaching Matrix (https://igeq.org/equestrian-instructor-qualifications ) is to be reviewed as is the website (https://igeq.org/).
  • Zoom meetings are to be held in March/September 2021 with presentations to be given by Sam York (IGEQ Technical Delegate) on Level 1 and Simon Kale (Chair IGEQ Safety & Risk Working Group) on Risk Management and Safety.
  • All going well, the next IGEQ Conference will be in South Africa Nov/Dec 2021.
  • The Malaysian Equine Council advised that they will be developing their own curriculum and will not be renewing the MOU with Australia to use our coaching resources.
  • All IGEQ delegates will be asked to complete an online information gathering survey
  • Presentations were made to Islay Auty and Christoff Hess – outgoing members of the IGEQ Executive Committee.

 

Further information about the IGEQ. They aim to:

  • Harmonise qualifications in riding, driving, vaulting, western and tourism instruction, including the associated stable management, and any other equestrian qualification that may be developed by any Member.
  • Issue International Equestrian Passports (through Members) to those suitably qualified to hold them. 
  • Arrange Examiner/Trainers' clinics to aid the development of a common approach to examining/training and maintain an agreed standard.
  • Maintain standards through Observer visits to examinations by invitation from Members and encourage sharing of best practice.
  • Encourage the growth of equestrian activities, linked to the agreed IGEQ standards, in those countries seeking to develop.
  • Further develop and recognise competition coach qualifications.
