Sport Integrity Australia Course
This course introduces you to the Child Safeguarding Policy.
This Policy sets out obligations and proactive and preventative practices to:
- keep children (persons under the age of 18 years) safe from all forms of abuse, harm and neglect; and
- create a safe and positive environment for children to participate in sport.
This course will assist you to understand and implement the Child Safeguarding Policy.
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- understand what child safeguarding in sport is;
- understand what the Child Safeguarding policy is, who it applies to and when;
- recognise alleged breaches of the Child Safeguarding in Policy;
- understand the role of Child Safe Practices in the Child Safeguarding Policy;
- understand the recruitment and screening requirements of the Child Safeguarding Policy; and
- identify how to respond to alleged breaches of the Child Safeguarding Policy.
Child Safeguarding Education
PBTR - Child Protection and Safeguarding
The PBTR Child Protection and Safeguarding course is designed to help users: Recognise the Child Safe Standards and find relevant Child Protection Legislation; Identify your role in child protection and safeguarding and work through what to do if child abuse occurs in your sport or club; Define the types, signs, risk factors and impacts of child abuse in a sport or club setting; and Identify steps to create a child safe environment in your sport or club.
Please note that this course is intended to be a basic introduction to Child Protection and Safeguarding. This course is provided by Play by the Rules – and is a grassroots educational tool. It is aimed at adults who wish to take the first step towards understanding the National Child Safe Principles and how they apply to an adult’s role in a sporting environment.
The creation of a child safe environment is everyone’s responsibility and requires a ‘top down, organisation wide’ approach from the whole community. Each adult must play their part.
What you will learn

- Identify your role in preventing child abuse and define what to do if child abuse occurs in your club
- Define the types, signs, risk factors and impacts of child abuse in the club setting
- Identify steps to create a child safe environment in your club
Due to the content of this course - and the reference to and definitions of abuse - this course has been designed specifically for over Adults over the age of 18. Please carefully consider the detail of the trigger warning below.
There is no restriction on under 18 year olds undertaking the course, if it is relevant to their role or interest. It is a free course and anyone may register to access the e learning. As with all online content however, depending on the age of the participant, we would suggest that a level of parental supervision might be encouraged, specifically noting that this course discusses types of abuse – and depending upon the age and maturity of the young person (parents will obviously know their children best).
Any adults who are directing young people to do this course should undertake a review of the content before they do so and risk assess whether the content is suitable (taking into account the age, maturity etc of the participants and may wish to obtain parental consent). Once you have made a risk assessment of the content yourself, you will be best placed to consider whether a referral to a participant under 18 is appropriate.
