Exell Wins Dressage Championship at WEG

With what he has described as the best team of horses he’s ever had Driving icon Boyd Exell won today’s Dressage championship at the FEI World Equestrian Games in Tryon.

He finished on 31.68, which was a mile in front of his rivals, to again prove himself as one of the biggest class acts of world equestrian sport.

“I have got a super experienced team,” said Exell.

Exell’s magnificent team of four is made up of Carlos, Celviro, Checkmate, Daphne and Zindgraaf.

Whilst today’s stunning score was impressive it was not his best. The most outstanding finishing score of his career was a 30 at WEG in Kentucky in 2010.

“The crazy thing is in Kentucky we did a beautiful test but it was not the same power and movement of this team today.”

“This is the best team I have ever had and that doesn’t come often as it takes 30 years to build a team like that.”

“Today in this atmosphere it was like turning a V8 engine into a V10,” he said.

Boyd Exell is a superstar on the international stage and the crowd went wild after his brilliant effort today. And, what made the achievement especially significant was the fact that in recent months he has been recovering from a broken ankle. In order to compensate for the injury he had his carriages modified after Aachen.
