Hearn sets the pace at first nomination show

The first nomination event for Australian riders vying for Dressage team selection for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games began overnight with four of seven competing combinations in action.

Sue Hearn was the best placed of the Australians, riding to an overall fifth place in the CDI3* Grand Prix. Pairing with her 2016 Sydney CDI Grand Prix champion horse Remmington, Hearn received a score of 68.820%.

Aussie combinations also filled sixth and seventh positions overall, with US based rider Kelly Layne and Udon P earning a score of 67.540%. Mary Hanna has two eligible horses in the running for Rio and with Boogie Woogie 6 she received a score of 67.540% which saw the pair finish in seventh.

Brett Parbery and DP Weltmieser earned 65.180% for overall 11th position.

"It's a shame but today wasn't to be our day," said Parbery on Facebook.

"After a very nice warm up we had some very costly mistakes in the Grand Prix.

"Well done to all of the other Aussie riders who competed today. We have a fabulous team vibe here and I'm very proud to be an Australian."

An additional three combinations will compete in the CDIO3* at the Odense horse show this evening. Starting times for the Aussies are as follows (in local time):

Maree Tomkinson and Diamantina 4 - 4:38pm
