Jake Hunter's results AND PHOTOS from Columbia

Nicola Turner, EFA National Office, Thursday, 18 December 2008

12-year-old Jake Hunter is home from his trip to the 2008 FEI Children’s International Jumping Competition Final held in Bogota, Columbia from 8-15 December 2008.

Jake drew a lovely hot blooded Dutch-bred mare however she was just 6-years-old so Jake had to really be on the job all the time. He got off to a great start on the first day riding a lovely clean round to be in =1st place.

On the second day he was very unlucky when his mare tipped the last rail for 4 faults.

The third day was a rest day and only flat work was allowed.  The next day of Jumping was held indoors due to the rain.  Jake was the only rider who hade never competed indoors before, however he managed to jump clear in the first round.  Unfortunatley the mare was a litle green in the jump-off resulting in a disappointing 8 faults.  This put Jake into 9th place and the cut-off was 8th which was heartbreaking for Jake as he had ridden so well and missed out by just 4 faults.

Jake then ran 3rd in the Farewell Stakes with a lovely neat clear round again indoors.  So overall one win and one 3rd place was a great effort by the youngest rider on one of the youngest horses in the competition.  Young Jake did a wonderful job and impressed all those who watched him.

Well done, Jake.
